Tired of highbrow mixologists getting all the glory?  Think you’ve got what it takes to craft a masterful cocktail?  Prove it!

Young&Hungry is teaming up with the Gintender and Fruit Bat to bring you the LESS THAN FANCY COCKTAIL COMPETITION!

The competition is open to anyone who wants to submit a drink.  There is only one qualification…your drink must not suck.  Besides that, it’s open season!

The Gintender will serve as impartial judge (extra points for clever drink names or ingredients that make the Gintender laugh).

The winner will receive a $100 bar tab at Wisdom, Fruit Bat or Church & State AND the winning libation will be featured on Fruit Bat’s menu for a limited time.

How to enter:

To enter, simply email your recipe, a photo of your concoction and your contact information to hungry@washingtoncitypaper.com by April 15.

Great news for all you late night food fanatics.  Fruit Bat is proud to announce “The Truck Stop” — a unique collaboration with  D.C. area food trucks.

Your favorite trucks will be serving out of the the Bat’s kitchen late night every Friday and Saturday.

The Bat will mix the cocktails and the beats and the trucks, which will rotate weekly, will provide the grub… it’s a match made in late night heaven.

It all starts  at 7 p.m. and goes until AT LEAST 2 a.m.

Genever expert & Belgian Ex-pat, Veronique of Diep 9 gave us a fascinating history lesson on Genever (Gin’s Grand Daddy) at Wisdom a couple weeks ago at our very first Genever tasting.

What is Genever??? 

The 500 year old Belgian National liquor that has a flavor profile somewhere between Gin, Vodka, and Whiskey.

Chocolatier in Georgetown.

Though not a secret to treasure hunters in the area, it was our first time.  After a wonderful afternoon of tasting, fingerlicking and spontaneous smiley outbursts, we are pleased to pair the following for your Valentine pleasure:

The Fleur de Sel Truffle: a lovely caramel  encased in dark chocolate, topped with sea salt
The Earl Grey Truffle: which has a deceptively hard shell rivaled by its forward blueberry flavor and fine tea finish
The Montezuma Truffle: a dark chocolate hiding a soft spicy chipotle center, dusted with cocoa
The Warm Clove Truffle: a sweet dome shaped bitter chocolate shell that reveals a moist genache and is dusted with 14k gold powder

In addition to the J. Chocs’ specialties, we found a Violet Petal encrusted truffle and a Carmelised Almond Brittle at Neuhaus in Union Station to round out our tasting journal.  Please join us, sip heaven and bite into even more!
